Mix of Sicilian Juicy oranges (12 Kg) and Lemon (4 Kg)

Sicilian Red Orange is a variety of orange with crimson, almost- blood-colored flesh.
The fruit grows in the territory of the province of Catania, on the slopes of Mount Etna and in the surrounding hills, the so called “Piana di Catania”. 
The main characteristic is the particular pigmentation of the flesh, that changes from dark orange to bright red. 
The distinctive dark flesh color is due to the concentration of anthocyanins, a family of antioxidant pigments, whose presence is favoured by climatic conditions specific of the Sicilian territory: a dry climate with a wide variation in temperature between day and night, in the period of the fruit maturation, between October and December.

A favourable climate and a fertile land, thanks to the presence of the Volcano Etna, distinguish the Sicilian Blood Orange, from foreign countries crops, for their sweet taste, for their energetic and beneficial properties, the high content of vitamin C, mineral salts and antioxidants as the anthocyanins, hat help fighting numerous degenerative forms of cancer.

Nowadays, Sicilian red oranges, a “unique” fruit in the entire world, has been recognised by the PGI mark (Protected Geographical Indication). It is very much appreciated in Italy as abroad.

Preservation

If stored in a cool, dry environment is maintained up to a month after harvest. It is advisable not to use the shipping box for storage, the ideal is a wooden case.
